The Maryland Zoo

The Maryland Zoo, located in Baltimore Maryland, is the third oldest zoo in the United States.  First opening in 1876, the Baltimore Zoo was renamed the Maryland Zoo in 2004.  Owned by the state and managed by the city, the more than 160 acres has over 1,500 animals!  This is definitely somewhere you’ll want to visit when in the Baltimore area!

Having a mission to inspire and educate, the Maryland Zoo offers many exhibits such as the Polar Bear Watch, camel rides and don’t forget to take an African Journey while visiting!  When you and your family are touring the zoo, you’ll notice the realistic settings provided for the animals.  The Maryland Zoo wants to make each and every animal feel right at home in Baltimore.  So as you walk around the zoo, you’ll be able to imagine yourself in the artic playing with the penguins or admiring the cheetahs in the grasslands.  With so much to see and do there we promise it will be a fun filled day for everyone!

When its time for a lunch break, or to grab a snack, the Maryland Zoo offers a variety of food to ensure its visitors aren’t going around hungry.  You could hit the Oasis in Africa for ice cream, frozen drinks or cotton candy.  Maybe you’ll decide you want a panini and the kids want pizza…head to Penguino’s Pizzeria and everyone will be happy!  Hot dogs, fries, ice cold drinks, chips, chicken sandwiches…these are just some of the options you’ll have to choose from when visiting the Maryland Zoo. 

You’re not done just yet…after seeing all the animals, sampling lots of great food, don’t forget to stop by the gift shop!  You and your entire family are going to have so much fun; you’ll definitely want to take home a memento or two.  The Wild Things Gift shop offers fluffy stuffed animals, zoo magnets & cool clothing.  Pick up a couple of books while you’re there!  There’s always more you can learn about animals, and the children will love the time you spend together reading about them.

The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is open every day from 10:00am to 4:00pm except for Thanksgiving, December 25th and the months of January & February.  They will also be closed the second Friday in June.  Pricing ranges from FREE for children under two years of age to $15.00 for Adults between the ages of twelve and sixty-four.   Parking is free so bring as many friends and family as you’d like.  STOP MONKEYING AROUND!  Head to the Maryland Zoo for an amazing experience!
